The DC (formerly HPD) Model 107 K2 ADR Cryostat
Mid-Sized, Cryogen-Free, He3-Backed ADR Cryostat
The Danaher Cryo (formerly HPD) Model 107 K2 adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator (ADR) is specially designed for experiments needing high cooling power. By employing a Helium-3 cooler that offers a low 300 mK intercept, more of the ADR cooling power can go towards your experiment. This mid-sized research cryostat features an experimental volume of 34 cm in diameter and 20 cm tall. If your cooling needs exceed standard ADR capabilities, but require operational simplicity, the Model 107 K2 may be just the ticket.
Model 107 K2 Deep Dive
The Model 107 K2 adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator (ADR) cryostat includes a He-3 sorption cooler to provide more power than other models. It aims to support ultra-low temperature research by providing quick and affordable access to mK temperatures. Many customizable options make it easy to reconfigure to fit your needs.
This system uses a single-stage ADR to reach temperatures as low as 25 mK. An ADR operates by subjecting a salt crystal to strong magnetic fields. In these different states, the salt crystal will either absorb or dump thermal energy. This is used to shuttle heat away from the sample stage achieving mK temperatures. Because of the nature of this process, only a certain amount of heat can be absorbed before the crystal must be warmed up and regenerated.
With a He-3 sorption cooler backing the ADR, the Model 107 K2 can maintain a temperature of 100 mK for 75 hours under a 1 µW load. The sorption cooler also maintains a high power 300 mK intercept stage for experiments that don’t need to be as cold. It is a robust “turn-key” mK alternative to dilution refrigerators.

Custom Service Stand
The top plate of the cryostat has mounting provisions that allow the cryostat to be attached to the service stand. This mount consists of a plate and ball attached to rods extending from the top plate of the vacuum jacket. The Service Stand attaches to the ball for lifting. Three jack screws on the top plate of the Service Stand allow for tilt adjustment and for locking the cryostat. The ball allows for rotating, and some slight swinging, of the cryostat. The service stand has casters to allow it to be rolled into position for attaching the cryostat.
The Service Stand has a vertical height adjustment capability that allows for placing the cryostat on a bench or other support structure. The vertical travel is approximately 76 cm.
